Alma Nuestra is a band created by two friends Salvador Sobral and Victor Zamora who share a passion for the sweet sounds of Latin America and, at the same time, jazz. They called two other companions and took a look at the already well-known and timeless songs from Cuba, Argentina and other South American lands, reinventing them and making them unique and personal.
“In my life I have gone through several temporary musical obsessions: Stevie Wonder as a child, Hip-Hop as a teenager, more recently Chanson Française, etc... However, there are two musical currents that, after having entered my life, have not most abandoned me - Jazz and Cuban Music. Well, on a beautiful spring night in Lisbon I met, at "Onda Jazz", a true son of these two sounds, Victor Zamora, a Cuban pianist with a jazzman's eighth note, who would prove to be the ideal accomplice to create a project that brought these two together passions. And so it was, Alma Nuestra grew along with our friendship. We would both sit down at the piano and begin our creative process: taking an old bolero and completely destroying it, without any shame on our faces. Later, two other partners joined this tropical crime - Nelson Cascais and André Sousa Machado who, with their ideas full of sensitivity and musicality, brought what was missing to define the identity of this soul of ours.”
